Our church’s story began in 1995. Bishop Dr. Joseph Quainoo and Rev. Dr. Vanessa Quainoo planted New Covenant Worship Center. Through energetic evangelism and the evidence of a commitment to character, the church became a part of the fabric of its community. The church also grew in international influence, as Bishop led many missions’ trips to Ghana, where churches were established and encouraged. This led to the church being called New Covenant Church International.
In 2019, Pastors Tim and Jill Quainoo re-launched New Covenant Church International as Hill City Church with a vision to see change in the Northeast. A native of Rhode Island with strong roots in the Northeast, Pastor Tim used his preaching legacy and theological training to help people understand functional ways to see their faith and experience spiritual wholeness. Pastor Jillian is a passionate communicator who loves to see people live their best lives.
Together, they poured into Hill City Church and helped many to experience truth growth and led the congregation through the unprecedented pandemic. In 2021, God led them to relocate back to the Chicagoland area and continue their service to Him, as faithful pastors and parents to their children, Naomi and Noah. We are thankful for their ministry and partnership.
Briefly, after Pastor Tim and Jill left, Pastors Derek and Rhema Irvine led the Church for about two months until illness in Pastor Derek’s family required them to move back to his home state of Alabama. We are grateful for their investment and contribution in the legacy of the Hill City.
Today, Hill City Church is led by Pastor Edward Goveia, and an anointed team of Elders (Elders Jacob and Peris Omondi and Elders Joseph and Maude Browne) and carries that same passion for people. Whether you are in the hills or the city or somewhere in between, there is good news! God is always working, we live our lives so we can be part of it. We believe you will find strength here and a community to help you get in the best shape of your life.
